Psychoanalysis

Listening beyond the symptom.

Psychoanalysis is central to my clinical identity and to the way I listen. In my practice in Lebanon, it provides a space to explore symptoms, recurring patterns and the questions that take shape within each person’s particular history.

What does psychoanalytic work explore?

Alongside the wish for relief, there may be questions about why a difficulty keeps returning or takes this particular form. You might understand something intellectually yet find yourself repeating it in your relationships, choices or way of relating to yourself.

The work can give space to these repetitions, to conflicts that are difficult to name, and to questions about desire, identity, loss or how you experience other people.

What is a session like?

You can begin with what comes to mind: an event, a thought, a dream, a memory or something that happened between sessions. You do not need to organise everything into a coherent account.

My listening attends to connections, contradictions, repetitions and silences, as well as what emerges in the therapeutic relationship itself. Meaning is explored through the work together; it is not assigned in advance.

How does this relate to psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a broad term for different forms of therapeutic work. My psychotherapeutic practice draws on psychoanalytic and psychodynamic approaches. Psychoanalysis is central to that orientation and to the questions we may explore.

You do not need to choose a label before contacting me. The initial consultation gives us room to discuss your situation and the form of work that may be appropriate.

Does the past have to be the starting point?

We can begin with what is happening in your life now. Earlier experiences may enter the conversation as connections emerge. There is no requirement to arrive with a particular childhood story, and no assumption that the same explanation applies to everyone.

My formation and the clinical frame

My work is grounded in analytical psychotherapy and ongoing Lacanian psychoanalytic formation, supervision and participation in the Forum du Champ Lacanien du Liban.

The frequency and practical arrangements of sessions are discussed individually. The initial consultation is also a place to ask about confidentiality, fees and what beginning the work would involve.
