Adolescents

A space of their own.

I work with adolescents at my practice in Horsh Tabet, Sin El Fil. Therapy offers a space to speak about experiences and questions that may be difficult to bring to parents, friends or teachers, with attention to the young person’s own perspective.

What can be spoken about?

The starting point may be anxiety, school pressure, family conflict, friendship difficulties, changes in mood or a feeling of not belonging. Questions about identity, sexuality, the body, expectations and the future can also become part of the work.

An adolescent does not need to describe their experience in adult language or arrive with a clear explanation. Uncertainty, hesitation and not knowing where to begin can have a place in the conversation.

The adolescent’s own space

My work begins with how the adolescent experiences what is happening. The concerns of parents or school may be important, while the young person may have different questions or describe the difficulty in another way.

Making room for that perspective is central to the work. The aim is not to impose a predetermined version of who the adolescent should become.

Parents, caregivers and confidentiality

Parents or caregivers may be involved when clinically appropriate. Their involvement and the boundaries of confidentiality are discussed according to age, circumstances, professional obligations and clinical need.

Confidentiality is important, and it also has professional and safety limits. These questions can be raised at the outset so that both the adolescent and caregivers understand the frame of the work.

How do we begin?

An initial contact allows us to discuss the adolescent’s age, the reason for seeking therapy and how the first consultation can be arranged. The first meetings provide an opportunity to understand the situation and consider whether working together is appropriate.

If there is hesitation about attending, that can be mentioned when you contact me. It is useful to make room for the adolescent’s own questions about therapy.
